VINCENT
VANGOURD
Gourds are among the oldest of cultivated plants. Gourds
( Lagenaria Sicera) were discovered in archaeological
dig sites dating as early as 13,000 BCE. It is a flowering fruit in the same family as squashes and pumpkins.
We use about 35 varieties
of Hard Shell Gourds. Once the gourd is dry, we can work with it. Each gourd is very unique and has its own personality.
The mold leaves beautiful a patina on the surface. Our translucent inks and dyes, allow that natural patina
to show.
Gourds have had so many uses throughout history..
food storage, bowls, tools,
water dippers, musical instruments, shakers, Purple Martin Birdhouses. And of course, Arts and Crafts.
